THe k-bun philosophy
Here at K-Bun we pride ourselves in both safety and animal welfare. Our horses have been trained to accept many things they encounter on the road at the many events we attend. Both our vehicles have lights and are above the recommended safety standard for horse drawn vehicles. We do constant risk assessments to ensure the safety of both horses, passengers and the general public. We are fully insured and have all relevent permits and policies in place. These are available upon request.
All our horses are Standardbreds. We are often asked why the Standardbred? Why not something pretty like a Clydesdale or draft? There are many answers to this. Standardbreds have an amazing trainable temperment! They are trained to race in carts and some pace, and now days you will find them everywhere, including State Championships for pony club show jumping. They are also strong and sturdy horses and are generally tough.
In the past, many Standardbreds were sent to slaughter. But now, the racing industry is implementing new programs to give these wonderful horses a better life after racing. We have had our very own experience of saving horses from the dogger pens - we were able to save two beautiful horses that are now an integral part of the K-bun carriages team. All four of our horses are not just part of a business, they are part of our family.
pumba
Pumba has been in the K Bun Team for over 13 years. He is a 16.3hh Standardbred Gelding who is also broken to ride and attend Pony Club. He is our all rounder and is full of cheek. If you a drinking a beer around this boy be prepared to share.
Threeo
Threeo was Oozie's racing stable mate, between both of these horses, they won enough to buy a house. Threo was the Stable favourite, he finished racing last year, meaning he raced up until the age of 15. This beautiful boy is going amazing uner saddle and we hope to see him on the gymkana circut next year. In the mean time you will see him out an about in the carriage.
Oozenville
Oozie came to us late last year after a very successful racing career. He has a heart of gold and we are looking forward to teaching this fella under saddle and extending his carriage work. he has been working well in both pairs and single work.
ACE OF SPADES
Ace of Spades is our little treasure we found at Laidly Sales a few years ago ,after he retired from a successful harness racing career. He is 15.3hh and is also our kids pony who enjoys the odd trip to Pony Club. Ace takes beginner riders and happily carries kids as young as 1. While he is new in our team he is an absolute gem.
